First Hair Cut...

When your aunt happens to be a professional hair stylist with great talent, trained at elite schools, with years of experience, your first hair cut is much more than a simple whack with a pair of scissors. Elliot was treated to a new style by one of her favorite people in the whole world.....her Auntie Carlie. Thank you Auntie Carlie, we love you, we MISS YOU!!!!!!

Mt. Rushmore

George...Tom...Teddy...Abe...I can totally see right up your nose!! It's true, the awe and wonder of Mt. Rushmore was not lost on us at all! This was one of our stops on our way back to Texas. We arrived early evening and it was really pretty to watch the sun set.

Ahhhhhh, yes...just enjoying some of mother natures beauty! Fire..anyone...fire? Cause Elliot has found you a fire hydrant just in case. We already learned on this trip to prevent forest fires from Smokey the Bear, my girl, she is just so smart. Smokey would be so proud!

No really, it WAS really beautiful there. And we did see some wild life. This crazy mountain goat was just cruising around munch'n on some grass. The girls loved it, Elliot of course wanted to touch it and naturally Audra was afraid it wanted to bite her.

Smokey The Bear

On day two of our journey home we drove through east Montana to get to Mount Rushmore. There is a whole lot a NOTHING out there!!!!!!!! We finally had to stop for a picnic lunch and the best place we could find was at the front yard of the Ashland Ranger Station. The people there are amazing!!!! They saw us out on their lawn and brought the girls goodie bags filled with Smokey the Bear things like coloring books, pencils, a whistle and Frisbee. They even let us use their very nice, very clean bathrooms. On the way out I told the lady who worked there how I had grown up in Alaska and there were always Forest Service workers around and one time I was given a Smokey the Bear shaped reflecter zipper pull for my jacket and how I loved that thing so much as a kid. Well...the lady then asked if we could spare ten minutes so Smokey the Bear HIMSELF could come out and meet the girls. The man how wears the costume works there and he got all dressed just for the girls and came out to meet them. Honestly, I was more excited about the whole thing then the girls, they were terrified of the giant brown thing. It was a great stop, very special for them to do all that just for us, some wayward travelers just passing by.

The long road home...

We are home...the road home somehow always seems to stretch out longer than the one that takes us to Gram's house. We did get to make some fun stops on our way home though. First, we got to visit our family-friends (these would be people that are friends, but feel like family) the Schwarz family in Bozeman, MT. We love you guys! Then it was off to Mount Rushmore. After that, two LONGGGGGGGG days of driving across South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and then into Texas. The girls did great...I will be posting some of our fun adventures here over the next couple of days, enjoy!

Blessings....

Today we thanked God for this amazing life that He has allowed us to have in our lives. I don't believe it was an accident that we have Elliot in our family, God created her and placed her on this earth to be a blessing to others. He chose us to get to be her parents...how lucky we are.

The baby dedication was at the College Church. Lois Blackwelder is a dear friend of our family and we were honored to have her perform the baby dedication. She was a substitute teacher through out my grade school years and I have been friends with her daughter since third grade. She also performed my brother Erik and his wife Carlie's wedding ceremony.

My prayer for you Elliot is this: That God is always near you and that you always long to be near God. That you find your way in this world by seeking Him. We may hold your hand for a spell, but hold tight always to his.

Spruce Goose...

On our way back from the coast we drove past the home of the Spruce Goose....we of course had to stop. This thing isn't just big, it's HUGE!! The girls favorite part were the the beach balls that they used in the pontoons to make the thing float, Elliot REALLY wanted to play with one and didn't quite understand why they were behind glass. If you're ever in need of an aviation fix, this would be the place to go.

Cape Perpetua

Yesterday was quite possible THE most beautiful day...........EVER. We drove down the coast about 40 minutes to Cape Perpetua. There are hiking trails through old growth forests, tide pools to explore at low tide, the Devils Churn and Spouting Horn where waves crash 30 feet in the air at high tide when the waves crash into crevasses and chasms in the rocky coastline. We had blue skies all day, ate a picnic lunch and tired those two little girls out!

Here fishy, fishy...

The Newport Aquarium is one of our favorite places at the coast. This year the theme was "Odd Creatures." We saw some of the funniest looking fish like puffer fish, strange jelly fish and other creepy crawly things that live on the ocean floor. The girls got to touch star fish and see otters and seals up close, AND mom got a great cup of coffee. I'm telling ya, these people have got it goin' on!

Bella Beach, Oregon

So we have made our way over to the Oregon coast. We are staying at a place called Bella Beach, it's located between Lincoln City and Newport.

It's miles and miles of sandy beach for kite flying, sea shell gathering, rock collecting and sand castle building.

Elliot is quite impressed with the Pacific ocean. This child is FEARLESS! When she got out of her backpack, she just charged right for the water. She played down by the waters edge, picking up rocks, standing in the puddles, till she was shaking she was so cold. I had to haul her up the beach to sit in the warm sand, but she would have stayed playing by the water till she turned purple if we let her.

There's just nothing quite like the cool, moist sand in your toes...the salty air....the crashing of waves....ahhhh how I have missed you!!
