So tonight as I was cooking dinner, Audra learned that the rest of the world eats sweet little cows, chickies, piggies and fishies. It went a little something like this:
Audra: Mom, what are the doing to that fish (she brought a magazine to me that had an advertisement for a stove, on the stove is a whole fish cooking in a skillet).
Mom: They are cooking it.
Audra: But why?
Mom: To eat it for dinner.
Audra: That's not very nice!
Mom: Some people do that, they eat cows, fish, chickens, and piggies.
Audra: But the cow wouldn't fit in there (the skillet).
Mom: (Oh dear, now what do I say) I know, that's why the need to put it into pieces.
Audra: But would that hurt?
Mom: Possibly.
Audra: Well.....that is not very NICE! (and off she goes).
I'm telling you people, it's a cruel, cruel world out there!! So much to learn when your 3 years old!

Mecca
When you grow up (literally) in a place like this....
it makes going to a place like this, the worlds largest, mother of all, coolest place on earth Whole Foods grocery store....MECCA!!
I made my pilgrimage this past Sunday. This was my idea of the most romantic thing to do for our tenth wedding anniversary. I had to call my dad in the middle of the organic bean aisle as I gazed at the rows and rows of beautifully faced (that's grocery talk for all the cans being pulled to the front of the shelf and labels facing out, Mandy and I were queens of aisle three at Andy's) beans of every kind. Pinto, navy, garbanzo, kidney, black, refried and most of them organic.
This place is a feast for all five senses. There are salad bars, olive bars, cheese stations, a DESSERT bar, a chocolate fountain where they will custom dip any candy or fruit for you, a sandwich building bar, pasta bar and of course the usual deli, bakery and meat departments. On the weekends you can sit out at the outdoor cafe and listen to live music. Friday night is family night, we will definitely be checking that out!
There are rows and rows of bulk items prepackaged and in bins, ahhh for the good old days in the bakery/repack department. Truly, Mandy, my dearest friend and I since fifth grade, would work in the evenings together and solve most of the worlds problems, while working away packaging Brewer's Yeast, chopped dates or some strange ingredient.
Our day wasn't ALL about the grocery store, we also enjoyed a meal without children (a rare event) at my favorite place on 2nd street, Jo's. Hmmm, mmm, mmm. They make a mean roasted veggie sandwich with slices of squash, zucchini, eggplant and tomato between foccacia bread with a smear of pesto. Good stuff. Their iced mocha is quite possible the most divine thing on a 100 degree day here in Austin. It was a quality day, the kind that keeps you going for quite some time. Here's to you and some quality time of your very own in the near future.

Ten years.....
Ten years and two kids later......
a few more wrinkles, a little less hair.....
still very much in love! Today is our special day, that would be Newt and I, our tenth wedding anniversary. Yup TEN long, long years!!!! So, what have I learned in the past ten years about, life, love and marriage? Here you go: You can't have one without the other (life and love that is). What doesn't brake you makes you (yup, that applies to marriage too!). We don't complete each other we compliment each other. Compromise sometimes needs to be sacrifice. Small imperfections and personality quirks are the most beautiful part of a mate. Having someone you can't wait to tell the smallest detail or biggest news of your day to is a beautiful thing. The rewards from marriage are equal to the work that you put into marriage, want a little then give a little, want a lot then give a lot.
I would not be the human being I am today without have spent the past ten years day in and day out with Newton Harrison Zanes the 4th. Not always easy, usually funny, and sometimes stinky! He has allowed me to grow up with him and become a woman, a mother and a better friend. We have already been through, accomplished and seen so much in ten years. Look out world, we are just getting started!!! So on this very special day what do I give my special man? My words, my love, two beautiful daughters and the promise of MANY, MANY more decades together.

On the move...
The truck was REALLY, REALLY full!!!!!
Maria, this one's for you "land o' boxes"
Our new home sweet home in Austin
Garden in the backyard of our new home, we will be growing some yummy things!
Our old house, looking so very sad and empty
We have so many memories from this house, it will be missed.
When this truck pulled up to load our four bedroom, three bath, 2,500 sq ft house, I said to myself, hummmmmm, I don't think everything will fit into that truck....guess what....it didn't!!! So I called the moving company to ask them for some help because they underestimated our house and not everything was on the moving truck. They told me too bad, I would have to pay for another truck to take my stuff to Austin. I told them that wasn't going to be happening seeing as they came to the house and gave me a quote for how much it would cost to move my stuff to Austin (not to mention the fact that we had sold things like a frig, 8 dinning room chairs, TONS of kids toys, and lots of other junk in a garage sale AFTER getting the quote). So far I have found broken 13 plates, 2 vases, 1 lamp, 1 chair, and another chair VERY badly scared. Needless to say, we had a TERRIBLE moving company and we made many more trips back and forth to San Antonio that weekend. But we are now all safe and sound in Austin, we have a very nice neighbor who is a fireman named Sunny (Audra now thinks all firemen are named Sunny). Newt is enjoying the perks of working from home (he comes out for a few bits of ice cream from the container during the girls nap time, then slips back into the office). I am loving the variety of groceries stores to shop from (I can't help myself, its in my blood, and SA only had one grocery store chain and Super Walmart, that was IT!!) So we will keep you posted on our adventures in Austin, more to come soon!Friday, June 6, 2008
